Contains correspondence and materials relating to Bentinck-Smith's undergraduate years and later Harvard activities. Correspondents include : Eze Ogueri II, Nathan Pusey, S.E. Morison and McGeorge Bundy. Bentinck-Smith's manuscript for Pitkin's journalism project at Columbia University is also included. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, and research materials relating to Harvard topics, such as his books Building a Great Library (about Widener Library at Harvard and Archibald Cary Coolidge) and Harvard Named Chairs, and a projected revision and update of S.E. Morison's Three Centuries at Harvard.

McGeorge Bundy (1919-1996) was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the national security advisor to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. He attended school at private institutions, including Dexter, Groton, and Yale University, from which he graduated first in his class with a degree in mathematics.
